The prerequisite to making a substantial impact is actually getting a deep understanding of the work and the context. Hence spend time building a deep expertise in the system you are working on and how it fits into the bigger scheme of things.

Once you are well-versed, it becomes easier to spot the inefficiencies and potential gaps. Stack rank them and start pitching them, get them prioritized, and deliver the most impactful items first.

The sooner you realize this, the faster you will climb the ladder.
