Writing efficient code or queries almost always takes a backseat ⚡
To get the desired performance, it is almost always cheaper to spend money on hardware versus leveraging expensive engineering bandwidth.
Although this is not good in the ideal world, given how quick hardware scaling is, it at least patches and solves the burning problem for the short term and at a much cheaper cost.
So, next time you see this happening at your workplace, put yourself in a CXO position and then think about what you would have done. Because business >> product >> engineering.
