Six core computer science projects that I absolutely loved doing during my bachelor’s and master’s.
- writing a file system using FUSE
- building a word dictionary on a flat file
- writing a lexer and parser for a subset of C
- building a search engine from scratch on Wikipedia data
- implementing priority scheduling in the Pintos Operating System
- building a Morse code encoder and decoder using state machines
Doing these six projects helped me build a rock-solid foundation to learn concepts, tools, and languages on my own and made me genuinely curious about the domain.
If you have some spare time at hand, pick these up, explore, and start coding. You will stumble upon and learn some amazing concepts along the way which will reignite your engineering curiosity.
