I have seen a lot of good engineers getting stuck in tutorial hell, and here’s how to get out of it ⚡
Being stuck in a tutorial hell is when you are constantly learning without practical application, leading to no tangible outputs or outcomes. Given that most tutorials are introductory being perpetually stuck in this trivial phase does more harm than good.
So whenever you are learning anything, be hands-on. This is the easiest way to avoid the hell or get out of it. Let me explain.
By being extremely hands-on you ensure that
- you understand the practical nuances and limitations
- you are not stuck just reading or watching and getting dopamine kicks
- you get tired of solving, learning, and building easy things, nudging you to go a level up.
The next thing your brain will do is nudge you to look for the best project to build and the best way to be hands-on. But this is a trap!
Do not wait to find the best resource, the best tutorial, or the best project; because they are mythical and do not exist. This is just you trying to procrastinate and finding an excuse to not do it.
Be curious with a high bias for action. It will help you learn things faster.
